The other day I was walking by myself, minding my own business down Riverside Park, trying to have some me time with . . . well . . . me, and I noticed these pianos just lying there unattended. So I snapped a shot and did some snooping around, and found out about a fantastic non-profit called Sing for Hope, and their Play Me I’m Yours arts project.

Play Me, I’m Yours, has a total of 60 pianos at different parks and public spaces all around New York City. From June 21 to July 5, the pianos are placed throughout the city’s five boroughs to be played by all who pass by — students, tourists, children, nannies, doctors, merchants, artists — in a festival of music open to all New Yorkers.
I’m definitely heading on down there to see if I catch someone actually playing the damn thang.

I saw one at the Astor place subway stop – and was wondering the same thing…what the….?
And then it hit me that it looked to be in too good a shape…I’ve been hearing that these were up all over the place, but I hadn’t seen any but the Astor one – I like the picture you took!!

Some of my friends from Marie’s Crisis are doing a tour of the pianos on July 4th, and busting out some showtunes. Sad I can’t go.
Their tentative schedule is as follows (all times are estimated):
1:00- The Metropolitan Museum of Art
1:25- The Central Park Bandshell
1:50- Merchants’ Gate at Central Park
2:10- Lincoln Center
2:35- Times Square
3:05- Herald Square and Greeley Square
3:35- Astor Place
3:55- Bleecker Street and Fifth Avenue

This sounds like a great thing to do on the July 4th weekend for those die-hard New Yorkers (like me) who can’t think of a better place to be than good ole NYC on Independence Day.
